Vijayawada: A fire broke out at ACP Satyanandam’s residence on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly triggered by a short circuit that led to a gas cylinder explosion and a blast in the AC compressor installed outside.

The incident took place on the third floor of Pratyusha Apartments in Patamatalanka. A huge explosion occurred in the flat, and the balcony caught fire, and the visuals were captured by a resident, which went viral on social media. The force of the blast was so intense that it blew away the portions of the balcony wall and grills.

Several people below the building were also injured by falling debris when apartment residents rushed downstairs after noticing the fire. A person identified as Gottumukkala Srinivasa Rao sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Police said the flat was unoccupied at the time of the incident as Satyanandam’s family members went abroad on May 7, and the ACP left on May 10. An investigation is underway to confirm the exact cause of the fire.
