SCoR Operations Chief Inspects Krishnapatnam Port, Stations To Boost Rail Freight

VIJAYAWADA: South Coast Railway (SCoR) Principal Chief Operations Manager (PCOM) Vineet Kumar inspected Adani Krishnapatnam Port and key railway stations in the region on Friday, reviewing infrastructure, safety measures and plans to step up freight operations.

At the port, Kumar held discussions with CEO Jagadeesh Patel on ongoing infrastructure projects and joint initiatives to strengthen freight-handling capacity. The port has augmented its silo-loading system with an additional feeding conveyor, enabling two silos to operate simultaneously and improving loading efficiency.

The addition of another mechanised berth has taken the port’s total to six mechanised berths capable of handling Capesize vessels. Each vessel can carry more than one lakh tonnes of cargo, enhancing the port’s bulk cargo-handling capacity.

With the infrastructure and operational upgrades, the port has set a target of loading 25 million tonnes of freight by rail during the current financial year, against 22.7 million tonnes achieved in the previous financial year.

Kumar also inspected Manubolu, Krishnapatnam, Niduguntapalem and Rapur railway stations and their goods sheds. He reviewed facilities for freight operations, operational safety and the progress of infrastructure works.

The PCOM interacted with railway officials and assessed measures needed to streamline cargo handling, improve efficiency and strengthen freight operations. The inspections were aimed at identifying bottlenecks and ensuring that ongoing works support growing freight demand.

Senior divisional operations manager A. Suresh Reddy and divisional commercial manager G. Mohana Krishna accompanied Kumar during the field inspection.

The coordinated efforts of SCoR and port authorities are expected to strengthen freight infrastructure, expand bulk cargo capacity and improve logistics, supporting regional economic growth.
