The 16th death anniversary of eminent IAS officer and public servant S.R. Sankaran was observed at the Bapatla collectorate on Wednesday, with Collector Dr Vinod Kumar describing his life and commitment to public service as an inspiration.
Dr Vinod Kumar paid floral tributes to Sankaran’s statue. Forum for Better Bapatla secretary Dr P.C. Saibabu said Sankaran had dedicated his life to public service and displayed sincerity in resolving people’s problems.
The statue was installed and unveiled at the collectorate on October 7, 2023.
The collector recalled Sankaran’s tenure as joint collector in Nellore, saying he worked to provide hundreds of acres to poor, Dalit and tribal people through societies and land assignments.
He said Sankaran remained committed to public welfare both in field postings and while serving as a government secretary at the headquarters. The conference hall, seminar hall, PGRS hall and study centre established in his name reflected the respect for his services.
Collectorate staff, representatives of voluntary organisations and the Red Cross, students and others attended the programme. Prizes were presented to winners of essay competitions held at agricultural engineering and food technology colleges.
