ANANTAPUR: Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samithi has welcomed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s move to request the Union government to establish a national-level agricultural university in Andhra Pradesh, as mandated under the AP Reorganisation Act.

Addressing a press conference at the Samithi office in Nandyal on Friday, its president Bojja Dasaratha Rami Reddy said around 1,800 acres of government land is readily available at Jupadu Bangla in the undivided Kurnool district for the proposed university. He noted that the area has assured irrigation through the KC Canal and the Muchumarri lift irrigation schemes, making it ideal for an agricultural university.

Rami Reddy recalled that the Samithi had repeatedly represented to successive governments to establish the university in Rayalaseema, given the region’s diverse crop pattern and strong potential for agricultural education and research. However, he said the university was instead shifted to the LAM Farm in Guntur district, which has only about 100 acres, calling the move unjust and discriminatory.

He said the Samithi had earlier organised agitations and submitted several memoranda demanding that the national agricultural university be set up in Rayalaseema, as envisaged in the Reorganisation Act.
