Providing Water To Pithapuram A Huge Task For Pawan Kalyan

KAKINADA: Deputy CM and Pithapuram MLA Pawan Kalyan will have a hard struggle to reach irrigated water to the farmers of his constituency, as the water in Yeleru, Pithapuram Branch Canal, RRB and other water sources is insufficient.
Meanwhile, former Pithapuram MLA SVSN Varma gave a call to farmers to go ahead with the Kharif operations as water can be released through Purushothapatnam. He said, “If farmers in Jaggampeta and Peddapuram constituencies cultivate paddy, but those in Pithapuram do not, Pawan Kalyan would face a difficult situation.”
Meanwhile, “There is no water in the Godavari and there have been no rains,’’ said a Telugu Desam leader of Pithapuram.
At present, the water levels are rising in River Godavari due to rainfall in upstream areas. On Monday, irrigation officials released 1000 cusecs of water under Yeleru and other water resources projects. But, from Monday evening, the water levels are receding at Bhadrachalam.
According to officials, “If we can provide 1400 cusecs of water to Yeleru ayacut, farmers can go for paddy crop. Otherwise, it will be difficult to supply water. Besides, unless there is rain in September or October, the entire crop in the ayacut will be in danger. That's why we suggest the farmers go to alternative crops,”
Yeleru reservoir executive engineer G Seshagiri said they are trying to provide water to the ayacut as per possible level. He said the water is releasing to the ayacut from the Godavari for the past two days.
In these circumstances, an irrigation advisory board meeting will be held in Kakinada on Tuesday to discuss the issue. It is learnt Pawan Kalyan will send an expert team to assess the water levels and possibilities of providing water to the farmers soon.
₹211 crore drinking water projects launched for Nandyal
KURNOOL: Minister for law and minority welfare N.M.D. Farooq on Monday laid the foundation stone for key drinking water infrastructure projects under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to strengthen Nandyal's water supply system.
Accompanied by district collector G. Rajakumari, the minister launched construction of a 16 MLD water treatment plant at the Head Water Works premises on Mahanandi Road at an estimated cost of ₹38.75 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Farooq said the Centrally supported AMRUT 2.0 scheme would significantly improve drinking water infrastructure in the town. He noted that the Velugodu reservoir currently holds around 1.7 TMC of water, helping recharge groundwater, but cautioned that the district could face water scarcity due to the impact of El Niño. He advised farmers to shift from water-intensive crops such as paddy to less water-consuming alternatives.
Collector G. Rajakumari said foundation stones had been laid for three major projects in the Nandyal constituency worth ₹211 crore. These include a ₹3.50-crore minor tank rejuvenation project, a 32 MLD sewage treatment plant costing ₹169.67 crore, and the ₹38.75-crore drinking water treatment plant. She said the projects would ensure sustainable urban water management and provide a long-term solution to Nandyal's drinking water needs.
