Visakhapatnam: Former corporator and Jana Sena leader P.L.N. Murthy Yadav urged GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg to take immediate steps to protect the Mudasarlova Reservoir from encroachments and implement council resolutions passed for its conservation.
In a representation submitted through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) on Monday, Yadav said the issue assumes significance as the state government is promoting conservation of water resources under the Jaladhara-Jala Harathi programme.
He stated that the Mudasarlova Reservoir, a key drinking water source for Visakhapatnam city, should be safeguarded from encroachments and its catchment areas preserved to improve storage capacity and long-term sustainability.
Citing government records, he said the reservoir spreads across 836.38 acres in Survey Nos. 26 and 27 of Mudasarlova village in Chinagadili Mandal and sought measures to prevent further occupation of reservoir and catchment lands.
Murthy Yadav also referred to a council resolution approved on November 21, 2025, for protection of the reservoir and demanded its implementation. He raised objections to land allocations for railway infrastructure, recreation projects and roads within reservoir limits, stating such developments could damage the catchment system.
He also alleged illegal excavation and private activity on around 42 acres beyond the BRTS corridor and sought a detailed inquiry into the issue.
