PPA Team Satisfied With Progress Of Polavaram Works

VIJAYAWADA: A high-level team from the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the progress of works at the Polavaram Project after conducting an extensive inspection of the site.
The PPA team, led by Chief Executive Officer Yogesh Paitanakar, inspected the project for over three hours, from 11 am to 2.30 pm. This was Paitanakar’s first visit to the project after assuming charge, during which he reviewed major components and sought clarifications on technical aspects.
The delegation included Member Secretary M. Raghuram, Chief Engineers C.V. Subbaiah (Power) and M. Ramesh Kumar (Planning and Design), and Director K. Shankar. Senior officials of the Water Resources Department, including Engineer-in-Chief K. Narasimhamurthy, and representatives of the executing agency MEIL, led by Chief Operating Officer A.N.V. Satish Babu, briefed the team on progress and timelines.
The team inspected the spillway, diaphragm wall, Gap-1 and Gap-2, upstream and downstream cofferdams, and the hydropower project. The hydel power station under construction was also reviewed, with officials presenting updates on milestones and quality control measures. Senior engineers and technical staff participated in the inspection and a review meeting.
Officials informed the PPA that works were being carried out in line with targets set by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Central Water Commission and the State government. With the project targeted for completion ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams, a time-bound action plan is in place, they said.
Emphasising the importance of the project, Paitanakar directed officials and contractors to adhere strictly to schedules and avoid delays, noting that the Centre was closely monitoring the prestigious irrigation project.
