Vijayawada: Police have arrested six staff members of a private college located at Poranki here on Tuesday on charges of wiping out evidence with regard to the death of an intermediate student by suicide recently.

Gannavaram DSP Ch. Srinivasa Rao told mediapersons that on January 31, student Pawan Kumar did not attend his study hour in the evening. When his friends arrived at his room in the hostel to find out the reason, they found him dead.

College management informed his parents and relatives who, in turn, lodged a complaint at Penamaluru police station that registered a case of suspicious death.

During the course of investigation, police found that Pawan Kumar and Hemanth had been friends. However, they fell apart over an issue in December. Pawan Kumar advised his friends not to speak to Hemanth.

On January 5 at about 11:00 p.m., six students beat Pawan Kumar severely asking why he had asked students not to speak to Hemanth. The students posted a video of the beating on their Instagram accounts. The students again beat up Pawan Kumar on January 30, which led to Pawan taking the extreme step.

College principal Pitchaiah, floor in-charge Ravindra, and mess boys Hemanth, Rajesh, Anand and Krishna wiped out the names of the students that Pawan had written on his left hand before he committed suicide.

However, police came to know about the names and arrested six of them, all minors, and have sent them to an observation home.
