41,000 Weavers To Gain From Free Power Scheme: APSPDCL
The scheme is aimed at strengthening the handloom sector and improving the livelihoods of weaver families across the state
TIRUPATI: APSPDCL chairman and managing director Shiva Shankar Lotheti said the free electricity scheme will benefit 41,046 weavers within the utility’s jurisdiction. This includes 29,075 handloom and 11,971 power loom connections across Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kadapa, Annamayya, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts.
Under the scheme, which came into effect from April 1, handloom weavers will receive up to 200 units of free electricity per month, while power loom weavers will be eligible for up to 500 units. The state government will bear an annual subsidy burden of ₹25.56 crore towards electricity charges, he added.
He said APSPDCL has taken steps to improve power supply by upgrading transformer capacity based on load requirements and installing capacitors where necessary. Efforts are also being made to resolve electricity-related issues promptly and ensure uninterrupted supply to weaving units.
The scheme is aimed at strengthening the handloom sector and improving the livelihoods of weaver families across the state.
