Proposals had been prepared for modernisation works in the eastern delta at a cost of ₹1,137 crore: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said a comprehensive plan was being prepared to address flooding in the Godavari delta area.
At a review meeting on Godavari Delta Modernisation at his camp office here on Wednesday, the minister said a detailed project report was being prepared based on a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) survey conducted at a cost of ₹13.4 crore.
Proposals had been prepared for modernisation works in the eastern delta at a cost of ₹1,137 crore and the central delta at ₹1,268 crore. He directed the agencies to prepare cost estimates for the western delta as well.
Ramanaidu directed officials to prioritise works involving canals, drains, strengthening of bunds, desilting, locks and shutters. He also directed them to prepare a plan for dredging at the sea mouth.
He called for desilting drains in Mummidivaram, Amalapuram, Razole, Narasapuram, Bhimavaram and other areas as they discharge water into the sea. He also directed officials to take up repairs to old locks, outfall sluices and other systems in a dilapidated condition.
The minister said the DPRs, once prepared, would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and efforts would be made to secure funds as required.
