Vijayawada:The Pattiseema water is proving a lifeline for crops amid a severe rainfall deficiency caused by El Niño conditions, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Sunday, directing officials to ensure efficient water management.
Naidu inspected the Godavari waters flowing into the Krishna through the Pattiseema project at the Prakasam barrage. He briefly stopped his convoy on the barrage while returning to his residence after attending the World Tribal Day celebrations in Vijayawada.
The Chief Minister observed the barrage brimming with Godavari water and said the abundant inflows had made it look particularly pleasant. Officials informed him that 17.52tmc of Godavari water had so far been diverted into the Krishna through the Pattiseema, the current season.

With Pattiseema supplying adequate Godavari water, irrigation releases were being made through various canals downstream of the barrage for crops in the Krishna delta.
The Krishna eastern main canal received 3,928 cusecs, the western main canal 3,115 cusecs and the Guntur Channel 115 cusecs. In all, 7,158 cusecs were being released into the canal network for the delta.
Naidu directed officials to manage water efficiently and ensure that farmers did not face irrigation problems during the challenging weather conditions.
