Paramedical students Seek ₹15,000 Stipend, Timely Exams

VIJAYAWADA: Hundreds of paramedical students staged a protest at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada on Thursday, demanding resolution of their long-pending issues.
The students alleged that police tried to prevent the protest by putting up heavy barricades and issuing threats. They reached the university and submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Chandrasekhar.
SFI state president P. Ramamohan and secretary K. Prasanna Kumar said paramedical students played a crucial role in healthcare but were being neglected by the government. They demanded a monthly stipend of at least ₹15,000 for students undergoing internships and clinical training in hospitals, saying they were rendering services without financial support.
They also raised concerns over delays in completing courses. Students who joined in 2021 were yet to complete their courses, with programmes meant to be completed in four years extending beyond six years due to delays in examinations and declaration of results.
The SFI leaders said the delays were affecting students’ higher education, employment and prospects in competitive examinations. They demanded timely examinations, declaration of results and completion of courses, besides stipends.
Vice-chancellor Chandrasekhar assured the students that examination-related issues would be addressed and other matters taken up with the government.
