VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would distribute house-site title deeds to 25,880 poor families in Visakhapatnam on September 19, giving them full ownership rights to the houses they have built on government land.

Naidu said the initiative was another sign of the alliance government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor.

The CM said the government’s policy was that no poor family should remain without a house. Under the ‘Housing for All’ initiative, three cents of free land was being provided to eligible poor families in rural areas and two cents in urban areas.

“The government is also conferring ownership rights on families living in houses constructed on various government lands. Those who had been assigned government land for house construction for more than 10 years would also be given full rights,” Naidu added.

Revenue minister Anagani Satya Prasad said the beneficiaries are spread across 11 mandals in Visakhapatnam district, with the regularisation covering nearly 400 acres. He explained that under different government orders, rights would be granted to 22,326 families under GO-296, 613 under GO-388, 156 under GO-84, 1,842 under GO-30 and 943 under GO-45.

The minister said, “The Visakhapatnam Rural mandal has the highest number of beneficiaries at 8,074, followed by Mulagada with 4,213, Gajuwaka 3,999, Gopalapatnam 2,956, Pendurthi 2,736, Pedagantyada 1,694 and Maharanipet 1,228.”

Satya Prasad said the government would soon extend the regularisation drive to Vijayawada, where 24,000 families were expected to benefit. Across the state, rights had already been granted to 12,000 families under GO-30, while another 9,000 applications were pending and would be disposed of at the earliest.

He said the government had also regularised house sites for 5,000 families in the Mangalagiri assembly constituency, with the initiative being taken forward with the involvement of education minister Nara Lokesh.

Minister Satya Prasad said families living in village habitations would be allowed to register their houses and house sites, while regularisation was also being undertaken for houses built on the excess Urban Land Ceiling lands.
