Telugu Desam state president Palla Srinivasa Rao on Sunday accused YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of demanding President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh to divert public attention from issues concerning his party. He alleged that the YSRC was attempting to trigger clashes at the grassroots level and blame the coalition government for the resulting law and order situation.

Palla said the opposition was trying to create political uncertainty by projecting a breakdown of law and order. He urged people not to be misled by what he described as a politically motivated campaign.

Referring to criminal cases against Jagan and other YSRC leaders, Palla recalled that the former chief minister had spent 16 months in judicial custody in disproportionate assets cases. He also referred to the controversy surrounding the CBI’s attempt to arrest YSRC MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy, alleging that the party’s conduct during the episode remained fresh in public memory.

Palla alleged that the YSRC was raising the demand for President’s Rule instead of addressing allegations against its leadership. He asked the opposition to reflect on its record in power before speaking about democratic values. The TD leader said the NDA coalition government was committed to ensuring free, fair and impartial elections in Andhra Pradesh. Every candidate should be able to file nominations without obstruction and every voter should be able to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation, he said.
