TIRUPATI: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has reported a record number of devotees availing its free luggage deposit and delivery service during April and May this year, with more than 5.13 million devotees safely depositing and retrieving their belongings.

According to TTD, a total of 51,38,976 devotees used the luggage deposit service during the two-month period. In April 2026, 23,15,279 devotees deposited their luggage compared to 20,75,481 in April 2025, registering an increase of 2,39,798 deposits. Similarly, in May 2026, 28,23,697 devotees availed the service against 23,82,622 in May 2025, marking a rise of 4,41,075 deposits.

Incidentally, the temple administration had established a network of luggage deposit and delivery centres across Tirumala and along the pedestrian routes leading to the hill shrine. A total of 65 counters are being operated by 345 staff members working in three shifts to provide uninterrupted services. With the recent increase in pilgrim turnout, 3,41,742 devotees utilised the free luggage services during the last three days alone, TTD said.

Deposit facilities have been arranged for pilgrims travelling on foot through the Alipiri and Srivari Mettu pathways. The Alipiri luggage centre operates five counters with a capacity of 10,194 luggage deposits and is staffed by 45 employees. The Srivari Mettu centre has two counters, a capacity of 3,025 deposits, and is managed by 10 employees.

TTD has also set up luggage and mobile phone deposit facilities at several locations in Tirumala, including Vaikuntam Queue Complex, Narayanagiri Shed, DD Hall, the ₹300 Special Entry Darshan Hall, and the Up-Scanning area of Vaikuntam Queue Complex. Additional deposit and delivery centres are functioning near Kalyanakatta for the convenience of devotees offering tonsure.

Separate facilities have also been provided for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. For luggage retrieval, delivery centres are operating at Alipiri Footpath, Srivari Mettu and various counters at Tirumala. These centres collectively handle thousands of luggage and mobile phone deliveries daily.

Explaining the process, a senior TTD official said that luggage deposited at the centres is tagged using QR-code-based technology integrated with facial recognition systems. A receipt containing the luggage details is issued to devotees. The luggage can be identified and delivered within a minute upon presentation of the slip at the delivery centre.

TTD has appealed to devotees to deposit their luggage, bags, and mobile phones only at authorised deposit centres and retrieve them using the token or receipt issued.
