Ongole Turns 150 Today, Celebrations To Conclude With Fire Crackers’ Show
Ongole marks 150 years of its municipality with a day-long celebration featuring cultural programmes, an Ongole cattle procession and a fireworks show.
The historic city of Ongole is all set to mark the 150th anniversary of its municipality with a grand day-long celebration on Wednesday, featuring cultural performances, honouring eminent personalities, and special showcasing of the famed Ongole cattle.
The celebrations, being held at the Mini Stadium, will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 10:15 p.m., culminating in a spectacular crackers show. A series of events will trace Ongole’s 150-year journey, highlighting its milestones and important personalities who have contributed to the city’s reputation.
Addressing a press conference at the Prakasam Bhavan on Tuesday, Ongole Corporation special officer and collector P. Rajababu, MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhan Rao, and State Cultural Commission chairperson Podapati Tejaswini said elaborate arrangements have been made for the celebrations.
The morning session will feature performances by local artists, a mandolin recital, classical dance, a visual presentation on “Ongole’s First Steps,” felicitation of distinguished personalities, and special cultural programmes.
A major attraction will be the Ongole cattle procession from the Mini Stadium through Trunk Road to Addanki Bus Stand. It will be followed by a beauty contest from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The evening programme will include traditional tappetagullu, dance performances, a visual presentation on “Ongole’s 150-Year Journey,” and “Ongole Vaibhavam,” featuring 150 women artistes. A live band and other cultural programmes will follow before the celebrations conclude with a vote of thanks, national anthem, and crackers show at 10.15 p.m.
Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Odisha Governor Kambhampati Hari Babu, assembly speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, district in-charge minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, ministers Dr. Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Gottipati Ravi Kumar, besides MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and other dignitaries will attend the event.
Organisers have made arrangements for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the venue. They have appealed to people to participate in large numbers and make the historic celebrations a memorable event.
