10,000 Runners To Take Part In Swachhathon In Vijayawada
Marathon to feature 5K, 10K and half-marathon categories on October 2: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: The second edition of the ‘Swachhathon’ marathon will be held in Vijayawada-Amaravati on October 2 to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and Swachh Diwas, with around 10,000 runners expected to participate.
Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram said the event aimed to promote awareness of cleanliness, sanitation and health as part of the ‘Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra’ campaign. The first edition last year attracted 6,000-7,000 runners.
The marathon will feature 5K, 10K and 21K (half marathon) categories, with ₹10 lakh in total prize money. It will start at 5 am from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, with minister Nara Lokesh flagging it off.
Ministers, MPs, MLAs and film and sports personalities are expected to participate. The route will pass through Krishna Barrage and Steel Bridge to Manthena Satyanarayana Raju Ashram in Amaravati before returning to Vijayawada.
