Nellore: In a major push to equip youth with industry-ready skills, Prakasam district administration is transforming its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into advanced skill development hubs focused on emerging technologies.

During a visit to the Government Boys' and Girls' ITIs in Ongole on Tuesday, Prakasam district collector P. Rajababu said these institutions are being upgraded to prepare students for jobs of the future.

He disclosed that the district has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Centurion University of Technology and Management to introduce skill training in electric vehicle (EV) and drone technologies. Training programmes are expected to begin shortly, with the required infrastructure being created with funds from the District Mineral Foundation.

Besides futuristic technologies, the ITIs will offer training in high-demand trades, such as plumbing, electrical works, and flooring technology, aligning courses with industry requirements. This would cater to the needs of rapid industrial growth Prakasam district is witnessing.

Rajababu said the initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping young people with practical skills sought by employers. He revealed that in line with the vision of Andhra Pradesh Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh, four acres have been earmarked at the Ongole ITI campus to establish a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) Centre, which will strengthen apprenticeship opportunities and industry linkages.

Calling upon students to make the most of upcoming facilities, the collector said the district administration is committed to creating a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of modern industries.
