The Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) conducted an anti-terror mock drill in Tirumala on Wednesday to assess the preparedness of security agencies in responding to terror-related emergencies and ensuring the safety of devotees.

The exercise simulated the infiltration of terrorists and demonstrated the coordinated response of security personnel, including the evacuation of devotees, rescue operations and neutralisation of the simulated threat.

The drill was conducted jointly by OCTOPUS, the police, TTD Vigilance and Security, Fire Services, medical teams and officials from other departments. Around 55 OCTOPUS officers and commandos participated in the exercise.

Security personnel were deployed in four teams across the Pilgrims Amenities Complex (PAC)-4 and Shopping Complex areas to carry out the simulated anti-terror operation.

As part of the drill, the teams demonstrated the evacuation of devotees from danger zones, provided immediate medical assistance to the injured, secured the affected area and brought the simulated situation under control.

Temporary restrictions were imposed around the PAC-4 and Shopping Complex areas during the exercise. Officials said necessary arrangements were made to minimise inconvenience to devotees.

Officials said such mock drills are conducted regularly at major pilgrimage centres to strengthen emergency response capabilities, improve inter-departmental coordination and enhance the overall security of devotees.
