Nomination Deadline Extended In Four Urban Local Bodies
The SEC also extended the nomination process in four urban local bodies — Kadapa Municipal Corporation, Rajampeta Municipality, Mydukuru Municipality and Tirupati Municipal Corporation.
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has revised the schedule for elections to 100 urban local bodies, fixing November 1 as the revised date for polling from 7 am to 5 pm.
In compliance with the Supreme Court order issued on October 21, the SEC scheduled publication of the final list of contesting candidates after 3 pm on October 25. Repolling, if required, will be held on November 2 from 7am to 5pm, while counting will begin at 8 am on November 3.
The SEC also extended the nomination process in four urban local bodies — Kadapa Municipal Corporation, Rajampeta Municipality, Mydukuru Municipality and Tirupati Municipal Corporation. Fresh nominations will be accepted on October 23 and 24 from 11 am to 3 pm, followed by scrutiny from 8 am on October 25.
The last date for withdrawal for candidates who file fresh nominations is October 25, up to 3pm.
In Kadapa municipal corporation, the revised nomination process applies to 11 wards: 6, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 24, 31, 34, 52 and 55. In Rajampeta municipality, this covers 11 wards: 6, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27.
All 32 wards in Mydukuru Municipality will have the revised nomination process. In Tirupati municipal corporation, it applies to wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, 55, 56, 57, 59, 65 and 66.
State election commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha issued the notification on Thursday, announcing the revised schedule for all 100 urban local bodies.
As advised by the Supreme Court, the SEC examined reports from collectors, district election authorities, police commissioners and SPs, along with representations from the petitioner, the YSRC, and other candidates. It also considered other evidentiary material, including electronic evidence, submitted to the commission.
The commission observed that in some urban local bodies, candidates willing to contest had allegedly been intimidated or attacked, had their nomination papers torn or had otherwise been prevented from filing nominations. It found that such incidents had occurred in the four urban local bodies and decided to provide affected candidates an opportunity to file their nominations.
Accordingly, the SEC extended the nomination process in the four local bodies to October 23 and 24, from 11 am to 3 pm.
In addition to the designated nomination centres, papers would also be accepted at collectorate premises specified by the respective collectors and district election authorities.
