No Respite from Heatwave, Temp Hits 47.7°C in AP

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions on Tuesday, even as officials indicated temporary respite in some areas despite several places recording temperatures above 45°C.
AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director Prakhar Jain said the highest temperature was recorded at 47.7°C in Mulukuduru of Guntur district, followed by 47.6°C in Gurazala (Palnadu), and 47.3°C in Kanchikacherla (NTR) and Inkollu (Bapatla).
He said temperatures above 44°C were reported in 125 mandals across 14 districts, with Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam, NTR, Krishna, Guntur and Markapur among the worst affected regions.
Forecasts indicate that Wednesday (May 27) may see severe heatwave conditions in 68 mandals and heatwave conditions in 93 mandals, while Thursday (May 28) could witness severe heat in 81 mandals and heatwave conditions in 203 mandals.
Temperatures between 45°C and 47°C are likely in parts of Polavaram, Konaseema, West Godavari and Eluru districts on Wednesday, while several coastal and central regions may record 42°C to 44°C. Southern districts are expected to remain between 40°C and 42°C.
Officials also warned that a trough extending from Odisha to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh may bring light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Chittoor and scattered rain with lightning in other districts.
Jain advised vulnerable groups, including elderly people, pregnant women, nursing mothers and those with chronic illnesses, to take precautions. He urged the public to stay hydrated and avoid exposure to hot winds.
