KAKINADA: A special feasibility study is being conducted in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on manufacturing value-added coconut-based food products in collaboration with NRK Foods, collector R. Mahesh Kumar said on Tuesday.

He held a high-level meeting with representatives of NRK Foods and said the initiative is being taken in coordination with the MSME department and District Industries Centre to maximise economic benefits for coconut farmers.

Mahesh Kumar said the proposed collaboration company, which follows Kerala-rooted food processing models with international standards, could help set up units producing a range of coconut-based products.

He said these include liquid coconut milk in convenient packs for curries and soups, coconut cream for bakery use, frozen grated coconut without chemical additives, coconut water in bottled and flavoured forms, and dried coconut powder in high-fat and low-fat varieties suitable for cooking and baking.

He also noted that medical experts are conducting research into developing a cancer-control drug derived from virgin coconut oil.
