Nimmala Promises Efforts To Complete Neradi Barrage, Gundrevula Project

Vijayawada: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has promised efforts to complete the construction of Neradi Barrage in Srikakulam district and Gundrevula project in Kurnool district.
Replying to queries raised during the Question Hour in the legislative council on Friday, the minister noted that the barrage was falling under Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Hence, the state government had written to the central government to publish the final orders dated 21-06-2021 of the Vamsadhara water disputes tribunal under section 6 (1) of the inter-state river water disputes act, 1956.
He stated that the special leave petitions filed by Odisha against the final orders were pending before the Supreme Court. The state government was pursuing it with the Centre and also with Odisha to resolve the issue.

Moreover, the Neradi Barrage, if completed, would generate 45,000 acres of new ayacut and stabilise 2.10 lakh acres of existing ayacut.
Similarly, on completion of Gundrevula Project, 2.65 lakh acres of existing ayacut under Kurnool-Cuddapah (K.C) Canal system in Kurnool, Nandyal and Kadapa districts would be stabilised besides meeting drinking water needs in parts of Kurnool district.
