Nellore: Rose Day Programme Held to Boost Courage Among Cancer Patients
Cancer survivors who had completed treatment were presented with roses, sweets and gifts.
Nellore: World Rose Day is an occasion to instil courage, confidence and hope among cancer patients, said Indian Red Cross Society Cancer Hospital chief medical officer Dr T. Lakshmi.
Speaking at a Rose Day programme organised at the hospital on Tuesday, Dr Lakshmi said the day was inspired by the story of Melinda Rose, a 12-year-old Canadian girl diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer.
During her treatment, Melinda wrote poems, emails and letters to comfort fellow patients, turning her personal struggle into a message of hope and resilience.
World Rose Day is observed in her memory to recognise the bravery of cancer patients and extend emotional support to them.
The hospital celebrated the occasion with cancer survivors, patients and their attendants.
Dr Lakshmi said the hospital was committed to providing treatment and care without imposing additional charges and urged patients to remain patient and confident in their fight against the disease.
Senior consultant in Radiation Oncology Dr G. Geetha Ushasree said compassion and self-confidence were as important as medical treatment in helping patients overcome the challenges posed by cancer.
She stressed that cancer patients should not face discrimination as the disease is not infectious.
Consultant physician Dr Venkata Bhaskar urged patients to make use of the advanced treatment facilities available at the Red Cross Cancer Hospital, while psychologist Dr Chandran stressed that a strong and positive mindset could play an important role in coping with the illness.
As part of the celebrations, cancer survivors who had completed treatment were presented with roses, sweets and gifts.
Doctors, nursing staff, hospital personnel and a large number of patients and attendants participated in the programm
