Nellore: Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to sanction a Rs 14-crore project to improve road infrastructure on NH-67 passing through Buchireddypalem Municipality in the Kovur Assembly constituency.

In a letter to NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav, the MP sought immediate approval for laying heavy-duty paver blocks, constructing footpaths and providing drainage facilities along the stretch between km 722.33 and km 724.80 to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents.

The MP said Buchireddypalem, located about 15 km from Nellore city, is rapidly developing into a satellite town. However, traffic bottlenecks caused by roadside encroachments, unregulated parking, temporary stalls and the lack of pedestrian facilities have led to frequent accidents.

He noted that officials had already prepared estimates for the proposed works and requested the NHAI to accord priority to the project. According to the MP's office, NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav responded positively and assured that steps would be taken to commence the works at the earliest.
