Nellore Civic Body Installs Dedicated Bins for Waste Plastic Bottles
Municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan and NMC’s health officer Dr O. Dinesh inaugurated the bins at several locations, including the Necklace Road Ganesh Ghat area, on Thursday.
Nellore: In a move aimed at reducing plastic pollution and promoting better waste segregation, Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) has established dedicated plastic bottle collection bins at various locations across the city.
The NMC’s initiative is in collaboration with knowledge partner All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG).
Municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan and NMC’s health officer Dr O. Dinesh inaugurated the bins at several locations, including the Necklace Road Ganesh Ghat area, on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Nandan appealed to citizens to extend their cooperation in making Nellore a plastic-free city by making proper use of the newly installed bins. He pointed out that continued indiscriminate disposal of plastic bottles would create needless difficulties for sanitation workers during segregation.
The municipal commissioner stressed the need for responsible waste management. He underlined that citizens should understand the environmental damage caused by excessive plastic use. He reiterated his appeal to people to segregate wet, dry, hazardous, and e-waste at source, making recycling and scientific waste processing easier.
Nandan thanked AIILSG for supporting the installation of the plastic bottle collection bins.
Municipal corporation staff, AIILSG representatives and local residents participated in the programme.
