NELLORE: Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) chairman Kotamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy on Thursday said the authority has transformed from a financially crippled organisation into a model urban development agency, despite inheriting severe financial constraints.

Addressing media at the NUDA office in Autonagar, Srinivasulu Reddy alleged that the previous YSR Congress government had "crippled" the authority, leaving it without funds when he assumed charge for a second term. He charged that during the previous term; ₹26 crore had been drawn for development of the Jammalapalem layout. But no work has been executed, leaving nearly 700 plot owners without basic infrastructure.

The authority chairman said NUDA is now investing ₹19 crore to develop the Jammalapalem layout. It plans to acquire an additional 21 acres of private land nearby to expand the layout.

Srinivasulu Reddy said tenders worth ₹40 crore have been floated for development works across all the assembly segments within the NUDA area. In addition, new layouts are being planned with the support of ministers and MLAs to generate revenue for the authority.

Highlighting completed projects, the NUDA chairman said Taraka Rama Park, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam Park, and NTR Necklace Road have been developed with the support of Municipal Administration minister Ponguru Narayana. He said the Necklace Road would be upgraded in phases on the lines of Hyderabad's Necklace Road with help from Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy.

Srinivasulu Reddy said a new statue of NTR will also be installed along the Necklace Road soon. He underlined that existing statues are being renovated and new parks are being developed.
