Nellore: Narukuru village in Gudur block of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh is among the villages selected under the Centre’s Digital Village Pilot Project, the Union ministry of electronics and information technology informed the Parliament on Wednesday.

Replying to a question raised by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, minister of state for electronics and IT Jitin Prasada said the project was launched to provide a range of digital services, including education, healthcare, skill development, financial inclusion and solar-powered street lighting, along with government-to-citizen and business-to-citizen services.
Under the scheme, 700 villages, one from each district across states and Union Territories, were identified for development as digital villages. In Andhra Pradesh, 13 villages were covered under the pilot project, including Narukuru village in Gudur block of the erstwhile Nellore district, now renamed Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district.
The minister informed that the Digital Village Pilot Project has been successfully completed and formally closed with effect from March 31, 2024. No separate timeline for further development of Narukuru under the pilot was indicated, as the project has concluded.
The reply did not specify any fresh proposals at present to take up additional villages in Nellore district under the Digital Village initiative.
