Nellore: Municipal administration minister P. Narayana conducted a whirlwind tour of the Nellore City constituency on Sunday, inspecting the ongoing modernisation of stormwater drains, government schools and the International School being constructed on Wakf Board land.

Reviewing the projects, the minister directed officials to accelerate the construction of the International School and ensure timely completion of all development works.

Addressing the media, Narayana said the government would not be deterred by criticism from the YSRC and asserted that development would continue unabated. "Those criticising us should first explain what they achieved during their five-year rule," he remarked, adding that the coalition government would respond to "cheap politics" with visible development.

The minister said government schools are being upgraded to international standards using CSR funds, benefiting students from economically weaker sections. He accused the opposition of making baseless allegations even against initiatives aimed at improving public education.

Highlighting the government’s infrastructure push, Narayana said drinking water projects worth `18,000 crore are underway across 123 municipalities, while another `14,000 crore will be spent on drains, roads and street lighting. In Nellore city alone, 15 major drains are being modernised at a cost of `50 crore, with the works scheduled for completion by December.

He expressed confidence that the drainage projects would eliminate the city's recurring flood threat. The government also plans to modernise 15 government high schools in Nellore to international standards, develop end-to-end road connectivity, and transform the city into a "Green City".

Narayana added that the tree plantation drive is being carried out without spending even a single rupee from the municipal corporation's funds, with support mobilised through external resources.
