Nagababu Bats for Green Growth, Urges Tree Planting
Nagababu said forests were being destroyed through indiscriminate tree-felling, mining and pollution and urged people to protect the environment, which provides food, water, air and shelter.
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Green Executive Committee chairman Konidela Nagababu called for collective efforts to expand the State’s green cover, saying environmental protection was a duty towards future generations.
Nagababu, accompanied by his wife Padmaja, planted peepal and neem saplings at Nandavanam in Aranyaramam, Mangalagiri, after performing traditional rituals as part of the “Ashwattha Narayana Vivaham” ceremony. He said planting the two trees together symbolised the harmonious blend of nature and spirituality in Indian tradition.
Nagababu said forests were being destroyed through indiscriminate tree-felling, mining and pollution and urged people to protect the environment, which provides food, water, air and shelter.
Taking a political swipe, he said the previous government had a “culture of felling trees”, while the coalition government believed in planting them. He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and he shared a commitment to environmental protection.
At Aranyaramam, 45 trees had so far been successfully translocated to protect them from development works. The proposed facility, being built at a cost of ₹24 crore, is expected to be completed in 10 months.
Nagababu also stressed the need for industries to participate through CSR funding to help achieve the government’s target of 50 per cent green cover in Andhra Pradesh.
