Museum Day Festivities to Showcase Vijayawada’s Rich Heritage
NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha appealed to students, youth, journalists, organisations and citizens to participate in the celebrations
VIJAYAWADA: The NTR district administration will celebrate International Museum Day at the historic Bapu Museum in Vijayawada on May 18 with a series of heritage, cultural and public participation programmes.
The tourism department, archaeology department and district administration, in association with Jignasa Art Verse, INTACH and RTIH, have jointly organised the day-long celebrations to promote awareness about museums and cultural heritage.
The programme will begin with a Heritage Walk from Bapu Museum to the historic Moghalrajpuram Caves at 6.30 am. The inaugural session is scheduled for 10 am, followed by discussions on Vijayawada’s heritage significance and ways to make museums more engaging for visitors.
Several competitions and interactive events have been planned for students, youth and heritage enthusiasts. A special programme titled “My Family’s Priceless Treasure” will invite participants to display antique household objects and share the stories associated with them.
A painting competition, “Heritage on Canvas”, will focus on themes including rivers, temples, heritage structures, stories of the city and futuristic museums.
A Vijayawada Heritage Quiz for participants aged above six years will be conducted in teams of three. Photography contests on heritage monuments and museums across Andhra Pradesh, along with a 100-word fictional story-writing competition based on artefacts displayed at Bapu Museum, will also be organised.
Visitors will be offered free guided tours throughout the day and a laser show at the museum premises. Cultural performances and traditional art displays will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in the evening, followed by a musical concert by Tollywood singers.
NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha appealed to students, youth, journalists, organisations and citizens to participate in the celebrations. He said museums serve as bridges connecting the past with future generations while preserving cultural identity and historical legacy.
