Kakinada: Government schools in Kakinada district are seeing higher student enrolment this academic year, with improved SSC results and academic performance attracting more admissions.
The Zilla Parishad high school at Mulapeta in U Kothapalli mandal of Pithapuram constituency has put up a “Admissions closed” board after reaching its full capacity.
Headmaster G. Srinivasa Rao said the school has admitted 972 students this year and cannot accommodate any more unless additional classrooms are constructed. The school recorded outstanding results in the 2025-26 SSC examinations, with a highest score of 596 marks. Sixteen students secured top marks, while 91 figured among the top three rank holders in U Kothapalli mandal.
The school offers classes from VI to X and Intermediate courses in BiPC and MPC streams.
Srinivasa Rao said all 45 seats in the BiPC course had been filled, while only five seats remained in the MPC stream after admitting 49 students. He said enrolment had increased from 950 last year to 1,028.
Deputy Chief Minister and Pithapuram MLA K. Pawan Kalyan congratulated the teachers and students on the school's achievement. He said the school had emerged among the district's top performers in SSC and Intermediate examinations and expressed happiness over the surge in admissions. He would visit the school soon, Kalyan said, and urged other government schools to emulate its performance.
The Kakinada municipal corporation’s high school at Salipeta has also reported strong enrolment, with an intake of 1,068 students from Classes VI to X against 1,102 last year.
Headmistress Alladi Pushpagiri said several more students were expected to join after receiving transfer certificates from their previous schools. She attributed the steady enrollment to good infrastructure, qualified teachers and quality education.
She noted that many students came from rural backgrounds and the school was committed to providing them with quality education and guidance.
District officials said enrolment in government schools stood at 1,19,778 this academic year compared with 1,22,633 last year. The figures are expected to improve further as students complete the TC process. The Peddapuram and Thondangi mandals have surpassed last year's enrolment levels.
