Mudasarlova Reservoir Receives Fresh Inflows Following Rains
Fresh inflows from Kambalakonda hills have raised Mudasarlova Reservoir's water level by three feet, offering relief amid drinking water concerns in Visakhapatnam.
The Mudasarlova Reservoir received fresh inflows following two days of rain, with runoff from the Kambalakonda hills raising its water level by nearly three feet, according to GVMC officials.
The reservoir level rose from 151.4 feet to 154.4 feet by Wednesday after the inflows. It had reached critically low levels due to inadequate monsoon rainfall and prolonged dry weather.
The reservoir is a key source of drinking water for several areas, including Arilova. Its near depletion in recent months had raised concerns among residents, who hope the fresh inflows will help recharge groundwater and ease the drinking water shortage.
Residents, however, alleged that roads and other development works had blocked natural water channels from the Simhachalam hills, limiting runoff into the reservoir. They urged authorities to restore the traditional drainage routes to improve inflows during future rains.
