Narayana Orders Round-The-Clock Response In Rain-Hit Urban Areas

VIJAYAWADA: Municipal authorities in rain-affected districts have been directed to take advance measures to prevent inconvenience to people and ensure a prompt response to emergencies in urban areas, municipal administration and urban development minister Ponguru Narayana said on Thursday.
During a teleconference with municipal commissioners of rain-affected districts, Narayana reviewed the situation in their respective towns, including waterlogging, drainage systems, sanitation arrangements and emergency services.
Narayana asked officials to remain alert in view of the heavy rains and continuously monitor low-lying areas to prevent water stagnation. He directed municipal commissioners to ensure that engineering and sanitation staff remained available round the clock and that personnel and resources were kept ready to respond immediately to emergencies.
He stressed the need for regular removal of silt from drains to ensure uninterrupted flow of stormwater and sewage. Officials were also directed to continuously monitor the drainage network and take measures to prevent blockages and flooding.
Narayana directed every municipal office to establish a dedicated call centre to receive complaints and emergency information from the public and ensure their immediate resolution. He stressed that the services should remain accessible to people and that complaints received through the centres should be acted upon without delay.
The minister instructed municipal commissioners to continuously assess the rain situation and give priority to public safety.
