Vijayawada:A state-of-the-art marine police outpost was inaugurated at Vadarevu beach in Bapatla district on Friday to strengthen coastal security and improve safety measures for tourists and fishing communities along the coast.

The facility was inaugurated by coastal security IG Gopinath Jetti in the presence of Bapatla SP B. Umamaheswar, Chirala MLA M.M. Kondaiah and Seer Ramananda Saraswati Swamy. The dignitaries later inspected the outpost and reviewed its facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, the IG said the jurisdiction of the Kothapatnam Marine Police Station extends over nearly 72 kilometres, making surveillance and policing difficult from a single location. The new outpost has been established with the support of the district police, the local MLA and Swamiji to improve monitoring and emergency response along the coastline.

Gopinath noted that Andhra Pradesh has the country’s third-longest coastline, stretching 1,053 km, with 595 fishing villages and 350 fish landing centres. To safeguard coastal assets, 21 coastal marine police stations have been established across 12 districts.

The IG said beaches at Chirala, Vadarevu and Ramapuram attract large numbers of visitors, particularly from Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. With tourism growing rapidly in Bapatla district, enhanced security has become essential.

Gopinath said marine police and district police are conducting joint patrols, and plans are underway to strengthen surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones. Improved coastal security, he added, would boost tourism while creating employment opportunities for local fishing communities.
