Model Code Takes Effect
Officials would constitute static surveillance teams, flying squads, MCC monitoring teams and election expenditure monitoring teams.
Visakhapatnam:The district administration has ordered immediate enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct across Visakhapatnam following issue of notifications for the GVMC Elections-2026.
District collector Abhishek Kishore directed officials to remove from streets the banners, posters, hoardings and all other publicity material featuring political leaders and public representatives. Officials must also cover plaques, inscriptions and statues bearing the names of elected representatives.
Officials would constitute static surveillance teams, flying squads, MCC monitoring teams and election expenditure monitoring teams.
The collector, as district election authority, sought comprehensive plans for distributing election material, setting up reception and counting centres, and securing strong rooms.
Officials would use previous election experience and prescribed criteria to identify sensitive, hyper-sensitive, and critical polling stations, and submit detailed reports. All arrangements must meet stipulated deadlines, the collector said.
GVMC commissioner and additional election authority Ketan Garg said nominations would be accepted from October 16 to 18. Scrutiny is on October 19, while withdrawals and publication of the final candidates’ list are set for October 21. Polling will take place on October 28, followed by repolling, if required, on October 29 and counting on October 30.
Returning officers have been appointed for all 120 wards across GVMC’s ten zones. Ketan Garg urged candidates to verify their returning officers and nomination centres in advance, file nominations within the deadline.
