Vijayawada: State ministers on Wednesday welcomed the passage of the Amaravati Bill in the Lok Sabha, describing it as a significant step towards promoting Amaravati as the state capital.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan said this was a matter of pride for all. He expressed confidence that Amaravati would emerge as a people-centric capital and growth centre.
Several ministers termed the development a significant milestone, stating that the legislation provides legal status to Amaravati as the capital. They thanked the Centre for its support and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for his eminent push.
Minister S. Savita said the long-pending aspirations of the people had been realised and referred to the role of farmers from the Amaravati region in the shaping of the AP capital. Municipal administration minister P Narayana said the decision reaffirmed Amaravati’s status as the state capital.
Ministers Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy and BC Janardhan Reddy said the passage of the bill marked the culmination of the assembly’s resolution. Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh said it would pave the way for development of Amaravati while ensuring balanced regional growth.
Mines minister Kollu Ravindra said land pooling by farmers had enabled the capital project and noted that infrastructure works had resumed. Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said the capital has potential to generate employment and revenue.
Passage of the bill in two houses of parliament would pave the way for furthering the administrative and legislative processes related to the capital.
