Visakhapatnam: The state government marked its two-year milestone with the “Two Years of Trust – Welfare and Development” programme here on Friday, with district in-charge minister Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy promising that drinking water will be supplied to the city through the Polavaram Left Canal within a year.
Inaugurating the event as the chief guest, the minister highlighted the government’s achievements in welfare and development since the alliance came to power, stressing that the promises made in the election manifesto are being fulfilled in phases. He cited increased social security pensions and schemes such as ‘Talliki Vandanam’, ‘Stree Shakti’, and ‘Divyanga Shakti’ as examples of the government’s commitment to the poor.
Ahead of the programme, the minister visited 13 stalls set up by departments, including APIIC, VMRDA, GVMC, tourism, health, agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and skill development, showcasing progress achieved in the district. Autos and tractors sanctioned under DRDA and SC Corporation schemes were handed over to the beneficiaries.
In his speech, Swamy dismissed negative propaganda surrounding DSC recruitments and the alleged misuse of public funds in the Rushikonda buildings project and promised that assets would be repurposed for public benefit. He praised Visakhapatnam’s progressive mindset and pointed to achievements such as safeguarding the steel plant, securing the railway zone and attracting investments like the Google Mega Data Centre.

BJP state poresident PVN Madhav echoed the minister’s remarks, noting that Visakhapatnam is advancing rapidly with international investments paving the way for its future.
District collector Abhishikth Kishore stated that Visakhapatnam is developing faster than the state average and attracting over half of the state’s investment, with plans to create 1.5 lakh jobs through `75,000 crore in investment. Expansions by Google, TCS, and Cognizant are expected to generate significant employment opportunities.
The event also featured testimonials from entrepreneurs and beneficiaries, felicitations for mentors supporting ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu’, and the handover of a mega-cheque worth `84.24 crore to self-help groups.
