 Kurnool: A local court has sentenced a man to five years’ rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a minor girl in a six-year-old case. Badvel Additional Senior Civil Judge Y.J. Padmashri delivered the verdict on Thursday and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000.

The incident occurred within the limits of B. Koduru police station, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly lured and kidnapped by Kambagandla Obaiah, then aged 21, from the same village. He reportedly took her to Ahobilam without the consent of her parents.

Following a complaint from the girl’s family, police registered a case under Section 366 of the IPC, arrested the accused and rescued the girl. A chargesheet was later filed after investigation.

After evaluating the evidence, the court found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence. DSP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath said strict action would be taken in all cases involving offences against women and children.
