ANANTAPUR: A man from Tadipatri has alleged that he was assaulted by a sub-inspector after his wife lodged a complaint against him and has sought action from the district superintendent of police.

The complainant, Murali Mohan Reddy, said he received a call from the police station asking him to appear following his wife’s complaint. Mohan Reddy said he went to the station expecting counselling or a warning.

“I went to the station after they called me. They could have counselled me or warned me and sent me back, but instead I was beaten badly,” Mohan Reddy said. “I have not done anything wrong. I don’t understand why I was treated so brutally,” he added.

He alleged that the officer thrashed him, causing serious injuries, including suspected fractures to his legs.

Mohan Reddy said he has been married for several years and has two children, aged 16 and 14. “After beating me like this, how can a husband and wife live together again? The officer did not think about the consequences,” he said.

In his petition to the SP, he alleged misuse of authority and excessive force by the SI and sought strict action.

Police officials are yet to respond to the allegations.
