Bar associations in Andhra Pradesh call for court boycott over alleged police excesses in Tenali

Vijayawada: Bezawada Bar Association president A.K. Basha announced that the bar associations of Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts had decided to boycott the courts on Friday (May 30), protesting the police atrocities in Tenali in Guntur district.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, Basha said that the fact-finding committee of the Bezawada Bar Association and the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) went to Tenali and found a violation of human rights by the police.
Basha stated that during their visit, it was found that a lawyer from the Guntur Bar Association was among the victims and that cases were unfairly framed against them. He further stated that they expressed solidarity with the victims. They have called for all bar associations in the Krishna district to boycott court functions on Friday. He added that the Guntur Bar Association and the Prakasam District Bar Association have also said that they will boycott court functions. Basha added that BBA and lawyers demanded that justice be done to the victims and that the police should be punished and suspended.
