Kurnool: Municipal commissioner P. Viswanath has urged citizens to complete applications under the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) and Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) within the stipulated deadlines. The last date for LRS applications is January 23, while the deadline for BPS is March 11, he said.

Directing officials to conduct field inspections to identify unauthorised constructions, the commissioner said residents must utilise the opportunity provided by the government to regularise illegal buildings and layouts. Notices should be issued to concerned property owners, and regularisation must be processed strictly through LRS and BPS, he added.

For unauthorised buildings, applicants must submit building area details, site layout, a safety undertaking, road-widening consent, and a structural stability certificate issued by a qualified engineer.

Viswanath clarified that BPS will not apply to structures on government land, disputed properties, encroachments on tanks, canals and streams, or buildings that violate Coastal Regulation Zone norms. For illegal layouts, he instructed officials to issue notices immediately and encourage residents to opt for regularisation.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those who fail to regularise under the schemes. So far, 1,988 LRS applications have been received in two phases, and officials were directed to ensure their speedy disposal.

In-charge city planner Venkataramana and other officials attended the meeting.
