KMC Plans PM SVANidhi Food Hub for Street Vendors

Kakinada: The Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) is planning to establish a hygienic food hub under the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme to support street food vendors.
As part of the initiative, a KMC team attended a design workshop in Ahmedabad on July 3 and 4 to study planning, design and operational aspects of the proposed food hub.
According to KMC officials, experts at the workshop explained food hub construction models, modern design practices, infrastructure requirements, hygiene standards, waste management systems and essential utilities such as drinking water, electricity and sanitation. The sessions also covered customer-friendly layouts, management models, revenue generation and the role of urban local bodies in operating such facilities while ensuring sustainable livelihood opportunities for street vendors.
KMC town planning and public relations officer K. Sailaja and Smart City engineer Manikanta, who attended the workshop, said the proposed food hub would strengthen the livelihood of street vendors in line with the objectives of the PM SVANidhi scheme.
