Kia India, IIT Tirupati Launch Makers Lab for Innovation

Tirupati: Kia India and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati on Friday inaugurated the Inspire Works Makers Lab, an innovation facility designed to help students transform ideas into practical products through hands-on learning, research and prototype development.

The launch marks a key milestone in the partnership between the two institutions, more than a year after they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in May 2025. It also marks the completion of the project's first phase with the installation of advanced equipment.

The Makers Lab has been developed as a collaborative space where students can conceptualise, design and build functional prototypes, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. The initiative forms part of Kia India's investment of more than ₹25 crore in IIT Tirupati over five years, which also includes scholarships, research and development initiatives, and academic programmes.

The facility was jointly inaugurated by Kia India Chief Administrative Officer Taehyun Kim and IIT Tirupati Director Prof. K.N. Satyanarayana.

Prof. Satyanarayana said the Makers Lab would serve not only IIT Tirupati students but also school students, faculty members, start-ups and innovators from the wider community. He expressed confidence that the facility would promote creativity, practical learning and the responsible use of technology.

Taehyun Kim said Kia India remains committed to supporting collaborative innovation by creating world-class infrastructure for young engineers. He said the Makers Lab would help students convert ideas into real-world solutions while preparing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Senior executives from Kia India, faculty members, students and scholarship recipients under the Kia–IIT Tirupati programme attended the inauguration.
