Kanaka Durga Temple Hundi Collections Cross Rs 3.46 Crore in 16 Days
Devotees also offered 280 grams of gold and 4.3 kg of silver
Vijayawada: Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri recorded hundi collections of Rs 3.46 crore during the latest counting held on Wednesday.
According to temple authorities, the collections represent offerings received over a 16-day period from July 6, when the hundis were last opened, to July 22.
The temple received Rs 3,46,08,014, comprising Rs 3,31,38,014 in currency notes and Rs 14,70,000 in coins. The average daily hundi collection during the period was Rs 21.63 lakh.
Devotees also offered 280 grams of gold and 4.3 kg of silver.
The hundis contained foreign currency from several countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Kenya and a number of other nations, reflecting the temple's appeal among devotees from abroad.
Temple officials also found two old Rs 2,000 currency notes during the counting process.
