Kakinada: Woman Alleges Forced Conversion, Harassment by Husband

Kakinada: A married woman from Jagannathapuram has filed a complaint with Kakinada District Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav, alleging forced religious conversion and physical harassment by her husband.

According to reports, Siripuri Bala Ramya married Gaus Mohiuddin, a butcher by profession, eight years ago against the wishes of her parents. She alleged that after marriage, he forcibly converted her to Islam and renamed her Sheikh Umal Khair. 

In her petition to the SP, she further alleged that he not only cheated her but also trapped five other Hindu women and was cohabiting with them simultaneously.

She stated that the torture continued even after the birth of their daughter and despite appealing to religious elders, he did not change his ways. When she escaped to her parents' house, he followed her there and threatened her and her parents with dire consequences, including threatening to harass her sister, she alleged.

She added that he had earlier been remanded for 20 days and that local police had opened a rowdy sheet against him after he physically harassed a young woman close to him. Recently, he had harassed an SC girl and was currently in remand based on her complaint.

"I mustered up the courage and came to file a complaint against him after he was remanded," Bala Ramya stated. The woman demanded protection for herself and her family and sought strict legal action against the accused.
