Andhra Student Dies After Drowning in Brahmaputra River

According to reports, Sai Chetana and a group of her friends had visited the Brahmaputra riverfront on Saturday. She and another student reportedly ventured close to the river when they lost their footing and were swept away by the strong currents.

Jammalamadugu: A 20-year-old engineering student from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the Brahmaputra River on Saturday in a tragic incident near Lathia Bagicha Ghat.

The deceased was identified as Sai Chetana Reddy, daughter of Jammalamadugu Tahsildar Sainath Reddy. She was a third-year BTech student in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at IIT Guwahati.

According to reports, Sai Chetana and a group of her friends had visited the Brahmaputra riverfront on Saturday. She and another student reportedly ventured close to the river when they lost their footing and were swept away by the strong currents.

Expressing grief over the incident, IIT Guwahati, in an official statement, said, "It is with profound grief and deep sorrow that IIT Guwahati informs of the untimely demise of a BTech third-year student of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), who tragically lost her life in a drowning incident near Lathia Bagicha Ghat on Saturday. IIT Guwahati extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones during this moment of immense sorrow and stands in solidarity with them, offering all possible support during this difficult time."
