Vijayawada: YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday accused the State Election Commission (SEC) of failing to curb alleged electoral malpractices during the local body elections held in the state on Sunday.

In a post on his X handle, he alleged that YSRC polling agents were kept out of 70 of the 80 polling stations and that Telugu Desam supporters brought from other areas went on a rampage with the support of election officials and police.

He claimed that the agents were attacked to prevent them from entering polling stations and that some were dragged out.

He further alleged that voter slips were snatched, polling booths captured and votes rigged.

He said video evidence of the incidents was available.

Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned the SEC’s decision to order repolling in only four polling booths despite the alleged irregularities.

He asked how the elections could be described as free and fair and questioned whether the commission was turning a blind eye to alleged wrongdoing by the ruling party.

He said alleged irregularities had been reported in municipal corporations including Kadapa, Anantapur, Tirupati, Kurnool, Chittoor, Ongole, Guntur, Nellore, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, as well as several municipalities.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said the YSRC would approach the court over the alleged irregularities to protect the right to vote and democracy.
