ISRO Chairman Outlines at AU India’s Space Station by 2035

The ISRO chairman expressed confidence that the partnership between ISRO and Andhra University would create more opportunities for collaborative research and internships, even for students.

 Visakhapatnam: ISRO chairman Dr. V. Narayanan reiterated on Friday that India aims to establish its own space station by 2035 and send an Indian astronaut to the Moon aboard an indigenous rocket by 2040.

Addressing virtually the inaugural session of the ISRO Academia Connect @ AU programme organised by the Andhra University on Friday, Dr. Narayanan underlined that India's journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047 will require stronger collaboration among educational institutions, industry, and research organisations. He emphasised that research should extend beyond academic publications and result in technologies, patents, and products that benefit the society.

The ISRO chairman highlighted ISRO's contributions, stating that the organisation’s satellites support over 50 sectors, including telecommunications, weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture, fisheries, water resources, and border security. He pointed out that satellite-based advisories for fishermen have helped improve their incomes.

Reflecting on India's space achievements, Dr. Narayanan pointed out that the country has developed indigenous cryogenic technology despite initial challenges. The cryogenic engine has gained international recognition for its launch capabilities. He mentioned significant milestones, such as the Chandrayaan mission and the launch of 104 satellites in a single mission.

ISRO scientific secretary M. Ganesh Pillai encouraged universities to conduct research in areas such as launch vehicles, satellites, propulsion, artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum technology, and cyber security. He suggested that educational institutions focus on developing technologies and prototypes with practical applications.

Those who addressed the gathering included AU College of Engineering faculty chairman G.V.R. Srinivasa Rao, principal M. Sashi, ISRO CBPO director G. Harikrishna, PBPO deputy director K. Satish Kumar, and conference convener P. Mallikarjuna Rao.

Following their speeches, ISRO scientists interacted with students about research opportunities in the space sector.
