IMD Signs MoU With VU For Farm Advisories

VIJAYAWADA: The India Meteorological Department under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology & Research to collaborate on weather-based agricultural advisory services, meteorological research and academic training. The MoU documents were exchanged in New Delhi on Thursday between Vignan’s vice-chancellor Prof. K.V. Krishna Kishore and Dr. M. Ravichandran.

Prof. Krishna Kishore said the partnership aims to develop scientific agricultural advisories using weather-based information to help farmers improve productivity. Under the agreement, high-resolution weather and climate change data at a 1–2 km grid level will be provided through APIs to enable accurate farm-level guidance.

Narasaraopeta MP and Vignan Educational Institutions Vice-Chairman, Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu, has said the collaboration would also strengthen research and academic activities in meteorology, agrometeorology, climate change and disaster management. He further said that opportunities would be created for student and faculty training, joint research projects and exchange programmes involving scientists, academicians and students from both institutions.
